President Murmu conferes 69th National Film Awards
President Droupadi Murmu will confer the 69th National Film Awards in New Delhi.
- ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ directed by R Madhavan has been adjudged as the Best Feature Film for the year 2021.
- Allu Arjun has won the Best Actor Award for ‘Pushpa: The Rise’.
- Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon shared the Best Actress Award for ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Mimi’.
- Pallavi Joshi will get the Best Supporting Actress Award for ‘Kashmir Files’ and Pankaj Tripathi will get the Best Supporting Actor Award for ‘Mimi’.
- RRR bagged the award for Best Popular Film providing wholesome entertainment and ‘The Kashmir Files’ directed by Vivek Agnihotri will get the Nargis Dutt award for Best Film on National Integration.
- ‘Ek Tha Gaon’ directed by Srishti Lakhera has been named Best Non-Feature Film of the Year.
- Mahajan will get National Film Award for Best Direction for his Marathi film ‘Godavari’. Shreya Ghoshal bagged the Best Female Playback Singer for the song ‘Mayava Chayava’ from the film ‘Iravin Nizhal’ and Kaala Bhairava won the Best Male Playback Singer for the song ‘Komuram Bheemudo’ from the film ‘RRR’.
- Prem Rakshith will get the Best Choreography award for ‘RRR’.
- Devi Sri Prasad and M. M. Keeravaani will get the Best Music Direction award for ‘Pushpa the Rise’ and ‘RRR’.
- Shoojit Sircar’s biographical historical drama ‘Sardar Udham Singh’ bagged Best Hindi Film.
- It also won Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design awards.
- Bhavin Rabari will get the Best Child Artist Award for Gujarati Film ‘Chhello Show’.
- Bakul Matiyani will get the Best Direction award in the Non-Feature film category for his work Smile Please.
Dhordo village of Gujarat gains global recognition as one of Best Tourism Villages awarded by UN World Tourism Organization
Dhordo village in Kutch district of Gujarat has gained global recognition as one of the Best Tourism Villages awarded by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. This honour not only showcases the potential of Indian tourism but also the dedication of the people of Kutch in particular. Dhordo is not merely a village recognised by UNWTO; it is a vibrant destination with much to offer. Nestled in the Great Rann of Kutch, Dhordo is famous for hosting the annual Rann Utsav, a cultural extravaganza that showcases the region’s traditional art, music, and crafts.

Hollywood actor to be conferred with Satyajit Ray Excellence in Film Lifetime Award at 54th International Film Festival in Goa
Hollywood actor and Producer Michael Douglas will be conferred with Satyajit Ray Excellence in Film Lifetime Award at the 54th International Film Festival in Goa. The well known Hollywood actor Michael Douglas has mane accolades to his fame. These include two Academy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the AFI Life Achievement Award.
Douglas’s acting career was propelled to fame when he produced and starred in the 1984 romantic adventure comedy Romancing the Stone.
The year 1987 saw Douglas star in the thriller Fatal Attraction with Glenn Close. That same year he played tycoon Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street for which he received an Academy Award as Best Actor.
Sivasankari honoured with 32nd Saraswati Samman
Noted author and activist Sivasankari was honoured with the prestigious Saraswati Samman for the year 2022 for her memoir written in Tamil, Surya Vamsam, at the National Museum in Delhi.
Saraswati Samman:
- The Saraswati Samman was instituted in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation. It consists of RS.15,00,000, a citation and a plaque.
- The Saraswati Samman, given annually for outstanding literary works in 22 Indian languages in the last 10 years, is among the highest recognitions in the field of Indian literature.
- Besides the Saraswati Samman, the Vyas Samman and the Bihari Puraskar are other literary awards instituted by the foundation.
- The inaugural award was given to Harivanshrai ‘Bachchan’ for his four volume autobiography, Kya Bhooloon Kya Yaad Karoon, Needa Ka Nirman Phir, Basere Se Door and Dashdwar se Sopan Tak.
Tanzanian Prez Suluhu Hassan to be conferred honorary doctorate by JNU
Tanzania President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by Jawaharlal Nehru University. The first woman President of Tanzania will be honoured with an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) by Jawaharlal Nehru University for her pivotal role in fostering stronger India-Tanzania relations, promoting economic diplomacy, and achieving success in regional integration and multilateralism. India and Tanzania signed multiple MoUs ranging in various sectors including digitaltransformation, maritime sector and sports aiming to enhance cooperation between the two nations.

Prof. Dr Joyeeta Gupta receives Spinoza Prize in field of climate change
Indian-origin professor Dr Joyeeta Gupta has received the Spinoza Prize, the highest distinction in Dutch science for her work in the field of climate change at a ceremony in the Netherlands. The Dutch Research Council (NWO) prize is worth 1. 5 million euros which Gupta intends to spend on scientific research and activities related to knowledge utilisation. Joyeeta Gupta is a Dutch environmental scientist who is professor of Environment and Development in the Global South at the University of Amsterdam.
Spinoza Prize :
The Spinoza Prize is an annual award of 1. 5 million euro prize money, to be spent on new research given by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). The award is the highest scientific award in the Netherlands. It is named after the philosopher Baruch de Spinoza. The prize is awarded to researchers in the Netherlands who belong to the best in their field. Academics can nominate each other and an international commission evaluates the submissions. It is sometimes referred to as the Dutch Nobel Prize.
Mathematician Ruixiang Zhang to receive 2023 Sastra Ramanujan Prize
Ruixiang Zhang, Assistant Professor, University of California, Berkeley, USA will be awarded with the 2023 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize for his outstanding contributions in mathematics. Building upon his doctoral research at Princeton University, Zhang collaborated with Shaoming Guo to establish a multivariable generalization of Vinogradov’s Mean Value Theorem.
Their groundbreaking work, published in Inventiones Mathematicae in 2019, is recognized as a major achievement in the field of analytic number theory. The SASTRA Ramanujan Prize, founded by Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) located near Kumbakonam, India, Srinivasa Ramanujan’s hometown, is awarded every year to a young mathematician judged to have done outstanding work in Ramanujan’s fields of interest. The age limit for the prize has been set at 32 (the age at which Ramanujan died), and the current award is $10,000.
Veteran actor Waheeda Rehman to be conferred with this year’s Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Veteran actor Waheeda Rehman will be honoured with this year’s Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema. Waheeda Rehman made her acting debut with the 1955 Telugu films “Rojulu Maraayi” and “Jayasimha”.
She made her Hindi cinema debut with “CID”, the 1956 film headlined by Dev Anand. Earlier, she has also received National Film Award forher role as a clanswoman in “Reshma and Shera” (1971). She has been conferred with Padma Shri (1972) and Padma Bhushan (2011) award.
