Sanjay Singh, close aide of Brij Bhushan, appointed as WFI president
Former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s aid Sanjay Singh has been elected the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India. The election for the top posts in the Wrestling Federation of India also paves the way for the global wrestling body, United World Wrestling, to lift the suspension it had placed on the WFI. The UWW had suspended WFI for failing to conduct elections with a deadline that they had set in August and India wrestlers competed as neutral athletes in global events over the last few months. The elections were held for 15 posts, including the president, treasurer, secretary-general, and senior vice-president, in the capital city. The twoway race for the presidential post of the Wrestling Federation of India was between former Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Anita Sheoran and Sanjay Singh, the vice-president of Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Federation.

Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sworn in as Kuwait’s new Emir
Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah officially assumed the role of Emir of Kuwait, taking an oath before the Kuwaiti National Assembly. He succeeds the late Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away at the age of 86 on December 16. Sheikh Mishal is the 17th ruler of the oil-rich Gulf state.

Egypt Prez Abel Fattah el-Sisi re-elected for 3rd time with 89% votes
Egyptian President Abel Fattah el-Sisi has been reelected for a third term with over 89% of votes the National Election Authority. Sisis win comes as Egypt struggles with an economic crisis and tensions amid the ongoing war in Gaza, which borders the country’s Sinal Peninsula. Sisi, an ex-army general, will serve his final term from April 2024. Runner-up Hazem Omar, who leads the Republican People’s Party, received 4. 5 percent of the vote.

Reuven Azar Appointed as Israel’s New Ambassador to India
The Israeli government has appointed Reuven Azar as the new Ambassador to India. Azar’s appointment was approved and he will concurrently serve as the nonresident Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Bhutan, as confirmed by a statement from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has held positions such as Deputy Ambassador at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, DC, Head of Middle East Research in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Amman.

AICF gets A. K Verma as the new Interim Secretary
The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has appointed Ajeet Kumar Verma as the Interim Secretary. In a communication to the chess administrators AICF President Sanjay Kapoor announced the appointment of Verma as the Interim Secretary. Kapoor said Verma was appointed as the Interim Secretary under the powers vested with him and the latter will hold office till the office bearers for 2024-2027 are elected. Verma is the Secretary, Delhi Chess Association. The position fell vacant on November 15 when Vipnesh Bhardwaj attained the age of 70.

The Bharatiya Janata Party named Ujjain South MLA Mohan Yadav as the new chief minister-elect. The 58-year-old leader was named as the leader of BJP legislative party at the meeting held at the BJP headquarters in Bhopal. Narendra Singh Tomar, the union minister who resigned after being elected to the assembly, has been named as the new assembly speaker. Outgoing finance minister and two time MLA Jagdish Devda from Mandsaur and outgoing public relation minister MLA Rajendra Shukla from Rewa have been elected as deputy chief ministers. Mohan Yadav, backed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, served as the higher education minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

Tribal leader Vishnu Deo Sai became new Chhattisgarh CM
BJP appointed Vishnu Deo Sai as the next Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. A four-time Lok Sabha MP, Sai was made Chhattisgarh BJP chief three times — in 2006, 2011 and 2020. In July this year, Sai was named a member of the BJP national executive.

Lalduhoma sworn-in as Mizoram chief minister
Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma took oath as the new chief minister of Mizoram. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Lalduhoma and the ministers. Lalduhoma, who once served as Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s security in-charge, will be the first Mizoram Chief Minister not from either the Congress or the Mizo National Front (MNF). Both those parties ruled the state since its formation in 1987.

President Droupadi Murmu has accepted resignations of Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Renuka Singh Saruta after they won in recent assembly elections. As per a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique, Arjun Munda has been assigned the charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, in addition to his existing portfolio. This ministry was headed by Tomar. Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State has been given charge of the Minister of State in Ministry of Food Processing Industries, in addition to her existing portfolio in place of Patel. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State, for IT a has been assigned the charge of the Minister of State in Ministry of Jal Shakti, in addition to his existing portfolios. The ministry was also headed by Patel. Dr. Bharti Pravin Pawar, Minister of State, has been given charge of the Minister of State in Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in addition to her existing portfolio. She replaces Singh.

India-born media executive, Dr Samir Shah, has been announced as the UK government’s preferred candidate to take over as the new BBC chairman. Dr. Shah was honoured with a Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2019 for services to television and heritage. He will replace Richard Sharp, who had been forced to resign after his communication with former prime minister Boris Johnson came under scrutiny.
